Injection Molding Simulation
Injection-Molding is a complex operation involving
non-linear non-isothermal dynamic flow of a visco-elastic material which
undergoes a melt to solid transition. The flow behavior is complicated
by the fact that the material is shear thinning and experiences extensional
effects as it flows through contractions and around corners, features
that are typical in an injection-molded product. Finally, as the product
solidifies, the plastic shrinks in a non-uniform manner that depends on
a number of factors that include flow induced stresses, thermal effects
and for semi-crystalline materials, the degree of crystallization and
the crystalline morphology. An understanding of that effects are accounted
for in the simulation aids in the proper interpretation and use of the
CAE results.
